No power to emachine e4056

We have the above desktop computer which will not switch on. The fan does not kick in and the light does not come on. Took the back off as thought it may have been dusty (which it was . Very!) However still no power.

Power supply unit might have gone, or the motherboard. Worth while to blow out the dust, won't do any harm.

Check the mains fuse in the 13 amp plug. If uncertain how to do it, your kettle lead could be used to test.

If its the PSU that has gone, then there is not much you can do apart from replacing it. Likewise the motherboard.

Not switched it of at the back by any chance.
Sometimes I switch it off and forget.

Look for rocker switch at the back as above, this is part of the PSU. If its switched on I would suggest getting a new PSU that as all same connections as yours and at least same power in Watts. This should be shown on old PSU inside at the top back, box with all wires coming from it

thanks guys it was the mother board and power unit so I believe the computer is now good for use as a door stop!
