Mac Desktop & Windows laptop using together

A friend has a Mac Desktop but wishes to get a Windows laptop and then set up a wireless router and use the laptop wirelessly. Not using a Mac myself, I do not know if this will work. Can he set up the router and use cable to connect to ADSL router and then set up the laptop wirelessly in the usual way ? Does software come with most routers to work with Macs as well as Windows ? Any advice will be appreciated thanks,

A router is just a router it will emit a wireless signal so the laptop should be able to receive that signal the same as the desktop its just different software for the two machines of which both should be on the routers install disk.
