Is it possible to use an iPad2 as a satnav without a 3G or wi-fi connection? Will the GPS function on its own with a previously downloaded mapping app?

Thanks Fruit Bat. Do you know this from direct experience or just from the review? I say this because I have a smart phone that was able to give basic satnav service just from the downloaded maps app. I suspect that this is a deliberate stitch-up between the tech and service providers. For example you don't need 3G or wi-fi for a stand-alone satnav device (e.g. Garmin) but pay for it thought the device and software licensing.
