Could someone tell me what the implications are of changing a MAC address. Can you make up any number and use it?

Thanks

NO!!! to receive a MAC code you will need to contact your present ISP by phone then you give it to your new ISP so they can activate your phine line......

Thanks for the Reply Santos, what I mean is for my laptop. Recently I was unhappy with the amount of information a wireless hot spot provider was able to obtain from my MAC address and therefore want to be able to change it.

Thanks

You can't unless you physically change the network card. It's hard coded into the equipment.

There are many means of changing the MAC address - a quick Google gave these click here=

What is harder to find is anything that says whether it is safe to do so.

Thanks guys, I'll have a read of those articles and see what the score is. It does seem hard to establish if it is safe.

Cheers
