hello

i need a simple macro that converts plain text links into hyperlinks that are clickable from a selection that i highlight but will be column A as i have loads of sheets with plain hyperlinks and need to go through them quickly

Try

Sub Hyper()
Dim c As Range
For Each c In Selection
c.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=c, Address:="http://" & c.Value & "/"
Next c
End Sub

does itstop once it has done the job as i just click on the column header A and it selects the whole column and has gone to not responding, also how can i get it to work with all excel files?

Try selecting a smallish range, not the whole column.
