Apple iPod Mini: can it play old mp3s?

Hi,
can an iPod play existing mp3s or Audio CDs we rip from our CDs? or do these players limit use to the website iTunes?

You can most certainly Add your current MP3's to iTunes (software) and then have them synched onto the iPod.

Good question.

With the iPod, you need to connect it to your computer (via USB 2.0 or FireWire on older models), and it will link directly to iTunes, the software that Apple uses to transfer music to the iPod. This is called 'syncing'.

In order to transfer CDs, you place one in the CD drive of your PC, open iTunes (it comes with the iPod, or you can download it). You then import it into iTunes (you can set import settings in the Preferences area, say as MP3) and it appears in the iTunes library.

When you next connect (or sync) your iPod, those tunes will then be downloaded automatically onto the iPod.

It's all fairly painless, but if you run into difficulties, please let me know.
