2009 Graphics Card Replacement imac

I have a 2009 imac which has what I suspect is a knackered graphics card (vertical lines over grey screen on start up followed by nothing but the apple logo in middle and lots of little squares on screen). Phoned local Mac reseller and, after telling them serial number, I was informed that Apple class the machine as vintage and no longer supply replacement parts. Not sure what my next course of action should be but it would seem that going the official route is not an option. Any helpful suggestions much appreciated.
