Has anyone built/bought a sub £200 computer (including monitor, keyboard and mouse) able to play taxing games such as Farcry at a decent framerate/resolution/quality?

Depends on the graphics card but at £200 it is unlikely to have a graphics card sophisticated enough to play this game or any of the latest games. You need at least a Geforce FX 5700.

Highly unlikely to happen.

not a hope in hell...

A 256Mb Radeon 9550 can play Far Cry and HL2 at 1024*768 at decent quality. I know becuase I've got one, although I must add that it's working with a 3Ghz Athlon XP and 1.5Gb ram.

So as this card can be bought for £40 it's a start. Join it with a decent sempron, 512Mb and a small hard drive you might just be able to do it.

Although I've just noticed that John63 also wants a monitor, keyboard & mouse, so the answers a no then. Especially as Windows is going to take a chunk of the £200

keyboard and mouse £10
XP OEM £50
CASE AND PSU £20
MOBO BUNDLE (SEMPRON2600, 256MB RAM) £105 (NOVATECH)
GRAPHICS alan14 suggestion £40
HDD 40GIG £32
DVD ROM £15
CRT MONITOR 17Inch £65

That's the best I come up with and I doubt it would cope. Total price £335app.

FarCry is really a game that needs to be seen in high detail... so, even if you could build a machine for 200quid that will run it, you won't be seeing it at it's best.

You could always buy an Xbox and FarCry Instincts... both together would cost you in the region of 90 to 120 depending on where you shop...

CASE AND PSU £20 - eeeekk!!!

That's a good idea - the xbox game is widely rumoured to be better than the pc version anyway.
