Best iPhone apps: Five free apps to keep you occupied between Christmas and New Year

Make sure you're not bored on your days off

So Christmas is over for another year. However, for those of you that are lucky enough to have the three working days between Christmas and New Year off, you may be close to crumbling at the thought of another day spent on the sofa watching 'classic' TV shows and trying to avoid cramming another mince pie in your mouth.

However, fear not, simply turn towards your smartphone as there's plenty of apps that will help you while away the hours, ensuring 2012 will be here before you know. Here's five of the best iPhone apps to keep your occupied between Christmas and New Year.

eBay

According to auction site eBay, as much as £652 million is spent by Brits on unwanted Christmas presents, which is the equivalent to £16.38 per person. If you've received a gift that you just don't think you'll use, then why not turn it into cold hard cash by selling it using the eBay app for your smartphone. Although don't blame us when Aunty Doris questions why you never wear the reindeer jumper she knitted for you.

Bookatable

If you're not fed up of food, or you want to escape the mounds of left over turkey, then Bookatable will help you find a restaurant near you. Even better, the app will pinpoint the deal on offer, ensuring you don't spend any more money than is necessary. There's everything from high street chains to Michelin-starred establishments listed too.

Filmaster: Movie recommendations & Showtimes

If you'd had enough of the usual festive repeats, then this app could be ideal. It uses your location to identify what films are being shown near you and even lets you view trailers and read a film's synopsis.

Usher

If you haven't planned your New Year's Eve party yet, then Usher will be able to help you. The app lets you send out personalised invitations to your friends on Facebook, check who's RSVP'd and even issue mobile tickets for your event.

My Good Resolutions

If you're rubbish at sticking to New Year's Resolutions then this app can help. Simply think about what you plan to change in 2012 and enter it into the app, along with personal goal. You'll then receive weekly reminders and view tips on how to stick to your resolutions.
