Here we tell you exactly what you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2. See also: Group test: what's the best Android phone?

How much does the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 it cost?

T-Mobile is currently selling the handset at £150 on a £7 pay monthly contract  and O2 is selling it for £179.99 on their Pay and Go Go Go service. This is considerably cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S3, which costs £499.99 on a pay as you go plan on the 3 tariff. See also Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 review.

What features does the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 have?

Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread OS

Like Samsung's other smartphones, the Galaxy Ace 2 runs Google's Android. Unfortunately, Galaxy Ace 2 is a bit behind with the times as its only running Gingerbread, when Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean have both been released.

TouchWiz Interface

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 features the easy to use TouchWiz 4.0 interface, consisting of seven home screens that can be loaded with different apps and widgets. The Ace 2 also comes with Samsung's Music Hub and Social Hub. The Music Hub allows users to browse and purchase songs and the Social Hub integrates messaging from various different social networks.

5-megapixel Camera

It comes with a 5-megapixel camera mounted on its back, along with an LED flash.  There is also a front-facing VGA camera which is useful for video calling.

ChatON

This is Samsung's own instant messaging service that uses phone numbers instead of usernames and passwords. It enables users to have multi-person chat conversations and the option to file share.

How does the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 perform?

Dual-Core 800MHz Processor:

The Galaxy Ace 2 is powered smoothly by a dual-core processor, creating a responsive and speedy experience. Its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Ace ran off just a single-core, so a nice upgrade there.

4GB on-board Storage

The smartphone contains only 4GB and has received criticism due to it only allowing 1GB of internal memory usage for videos, photos and music. However, a MicroSD card can conveniently be placed in a side slot for an additional 32GB.

1500mAh Battery

The battery provides around 7.5 hours talk time or up to 3 hours of video chat. With standard usage it should last for more than a day, which is sufficient for your average user.

Connectivity

The Ace 2 has a collection of 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth connectivity and GPS and HSDPA offerings too.

How is the design?

It's all curved corners and metallic edging, so nothing too aesthetically outrageous. It's a simplistic and sleek compact handset that sits nicely in your palm. The Galaxy Ace 2 is 10.5mm thick and weighs 122g, which gives it some comfortable sturdiness. A minimalistic device face is what one comes to expect with a touchscreen phone, with just three physical buttons on the Ace 2 – home, menu and back.

A 3.8-inch display is ample screen size with a 400 x 800 resolution to focus on every pixel of detail. A micro-USB port is situated on the bottom of the handset for charging and sharing files to a PC.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 was released May 9th 2012.
