Amazon has moved its LoveFilm streaming service and rejigged Prime so we answer 'What is Amazon Prime Video?' and 'What happened to LoveFilm?'
What happened to LoveFilm?
We'll start by answering this question because it will make it clear what Amazon has decided to do and the subsequent questions naturally follow on.
LoveFilm is no more but Amazon hasn't closed the service. Instead, it has moved it to its Amazon Prime service and renamed it 'Amazon Prime Instant Video'.
If you head to the LoveFilm website then you'll be presented with a page asking to you switch. Existing members need to switch to using an Amazon account to carry on using the service. Users should not create a new account for Amazon Prime Video because you might be charged for both. Head to Amazon's FAQ for more details on switching.
What is Amazon Prime Instant Video?
We've pretty much just answered that but here are some more details. The service unlimited streaming of more than 15,000 films and TV shows for a monthly fee, just like LoveFilm.
However, it's worth noting that not all content is included in the monthly fee. If it has a 'Prime' banner (see below) then you're ok but if it doesn't then you'll need to buy or rent that title on an individual basis.
The change happened on 26 February with Amazon saying: "Amazon has announced that it is combining two of the most popular subscription services in the UK, Amazon Prime and LOVEFiLM, to become Prime Instant Video,"
You can still access it via the web and the ways in which LoveFilm was available including games consoles, iPad and Smart TVs.
Amazon Prime Instant Video: How much does it cost?
If you subscribe to Amazon's full Prime service, which provides one-day delivery on millions of items, then Amazon Prime Instant Video is included. An Amazon Prime subscription costs £79 per year and users can optionally add LoveFilm by Post for an extra fee (see below).
If you don't fancy signing up for the full Amazon Prime, then you can get Amazon Prime Instant Video for £5.99 per month. Once again, LoveFilm by Post can be bundled in for more cash (see below).
Can I still get LoveFilm by Post?
Still called 'LoveFilm by Post' is offers unlimited DVDs and Blu-rays to rent, two at a time, with free first class postage both ways. We're not sure why it didn't get changed to 'Amazon Prime Video by Post' to fit it.
Amazon Prime and Amazon Prime Instant Video members can add this onto their subscription for £6.99 per month. Anyone who wants to use this service on its own will be charged £7.99 per month.
Is there a free trial?
As usual, Amazon offers a 30-day free trial for Amazon Prime, Amazon Prime Instant Video and LoveFilm by Post. After the trial, users will be charge the prices states above.
