Apple wins PC Advisor's Best Portable Entertainment Device of 2012 award

The best brands and technology of 2012

The latest Apple iPod touch is slim, at 7.2mm, and now comes with iOS 5 and supports iCloud – a neat way of accessing music and photos from anywhere via the web. iMessage lets you send secure messages over Wi-Fi, too. Additions such as Photostream and editable playlists enhance the player’s usability, while iCloud addresses some of the ‘tied to iTunes’ concerns. An iPhone without the phone, the iPod touch offers music, movies, games and web browsing.

About the PC Advisor Awards 2012

Our annual roll call of honour considers every piece of hardware and software that has passed through our Test Centre over the past year. We look for innovation and excellence, outstanding performance and value for money.

Only excellent products make the PC Advisor Awards shortlist, and we congratulate all the manufacturers represented on the list. If a product still looks great from the view point of up to a year after its first review, the chances are that it is great.

That does, however, mean that our PC Advisor Awards coverage is not necessarily a buyer’s guide – for that you should visit our Test Centre and Reviews. Some of the products may no longer be available, and in some categories they may have been superseded.

Whittling down the shortlist to pick out individual winners isn’t easy. In all cases arguments could be (and were) made for products other than the eventual winners. But winners there must be.

See pcadvisor.co.uk/awards for details on our other award winners
