There are plenty of free music-related downloads for your PC. From apps that help you manage your digital music collection to software that lets you play CDs on your PC without hogging you computer's resources. Here's five of our favourite free music-related downloads.

Audacity is an audio recording and editing tool which standard apart from the competition by offering a selecting of powerful editing tools in an instantly accessible interface which, unlike some similar programs, is not intimidating in the slightest. Editing can be carried out on existing audio files, but it is also possible to record sounds directly into the program to start from scratch.

Audiggle 2.0.0.1

Audiggle is an interesting tool that can identify many songs from their sound alone.

The program can accept input from any PC audio source. Point Audiggle at your microphone, say, and you can have it try to identify a song playing on your TV. Or, if you choose the 'What U Hear' option, then the program will analyse whatever is playing through your speakers at the moment: your media player, internet radio, background music in a game, whatever it might be.

Lean CD Player 2.5

Lean CD Player is a tiny tool that allows you to play audio CDs without wasting system resources on a bulky media player.

MediaMonkey 3.2

MediaMonkey is a smart audio tool that can help organise and manage your music collection in many different ways.

The program starts by scanning your hard drive, CDs and network system for music files (MP3, AAC (M4A), OGG, WMA, FLAC, MPC, WAV, CDA, M3U and PLS files are supported). You can then organise, browse or search your music collection by Genre, Artist, Year and more. MediaMonkey will also automatically identify audio files that are missing tags, and correct them using many sources. So for instance it'll grab album art from Amazon, locate CD information on Freedb and CD-TEXT, find track details on Allmusic, and more.

Mixxx 1.9.0

Mixxx is a powerful open-source DJ tool that gives you everything you need to create quality live mixes.

If you're a total DJ newbie who knows nothing about 'key lock' or 'hot cues' then you can get started with the Auto DJ: just import a few audio tracks, and the program will handle the mixing from one to the other.
