30% of Hong Kong respondents are not happy to leave comforts of their home and travel for business, according to the latest survey by Regus.
23% said home cooked food is among the top three things they miss when they are abroad for work.
16% of Hong Kong respondents long to speak in their own language and 44% were more likely to miss their home than the global average of 38%.
In Asia, 40% of respondents from China and 27% from Japan miss speaking in their language when travelling abroad for work.
"Face-to-face meetings have often been a key part of business as people need to see the expressions and body language of those they are talking to, but workers also find that over the years their priorities change," said John Henderson, chief financial officer, Regus Asia-Pacific. "New technologies that allow workers to hold video conferences are becoming more and more common and employees are rightly starting to demand that these be offered as an alternative to travel."
Bout of nostalgia
25% of business respondents globally said they are most likely to be nostalgic about home cooking and don't savour foreign cuisines. 18% of South Korean respondents said they miss television programmes at home- a figure that is much than the global average of 7%.
The latest Regus survey of more than 19,000 business owners and senior managers in 98 countries show that 68% miss their family and 38% their home when going overseas for work.
Globally, 12% miss their pets and the same number missed their living standard when travelling abroad.
5% of global respondents said they miss the types of medicines they can only get in their own country and 5% miss certain types of shops in their nation.
"Reducing unnecessary travel also helps the bottom line: it significantly reduces costs and carbon footprint," added Henderson. "By introducing a greater degree of video conferencing, businesses can have their cake and eat it too: they can save money and the environment, as well as helping increase employee satisfaction and improve their work: life balance."
