Kindle Fire HDX

The new 8.9in Kindle Fire HDX is now shipping in the UK. At just 374 grams it is the lightest large-screen tablet in the market, says Amazon. The new Kindle Fire HDX 8.9in is £329 and will allow you to access Amazon's 27 million films, TV shows, songs, apps, games, books, audiobooks and magazines. Amazon says that the light design won't compromise the features and performance. A quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.2 GHz will deliver 3x the processing power of previous Kindle Fire tablets, says Amazon, which should ensure a fast and impeccable performance, the manufacturer says.

The new HDX display includes features such as reduced glare and dynamic image contrast, along with what Amazon describes as 'improved brightness'. This, Amazon says, will guarantee the best viewing experience both indoors and outdoors.

Kindle FreeTime parental controls

Parental controls have also been extended, says Amazon. Kindle FreeTime allows parents to control and manage not only the content but also set time limits based on content type.

The new Kindle Fire HDX should make it a lot easier to stay connected, too. Updates in both email and calendars along with an improved version of the  Silk browser and seamless integration with Facebook and Twitter are included, says Amazon.

Battery life has also been improved according to the manufacturer. Users will be able to have up to 11 hours of mixed use and 17 hours of reading, Amazon says. As always, take such figures with a pinch of salt until we have tested.

One of the most exciting new features of the Kindle Fire HDX is its innovative Mayday button. Tapping the Mayday button will help you with any issues you may have on your Kindle Fire HDX or help you learn how to use a new feature. Delivering instant and personal live tech support 24/7, 365 days of year it will most definitely revolutionise customer and technical service. Not only this, but the service is impressively quick- 15 seconds or less is the Mayday response time goal- and completely free. You may have seen Mayday demonstrated on a TV add: you press the button and get to speak via video to a help operative. Find out more: Amazon Kindle Fire HDX: Release date, price and specs.
