UPDATED 1.15pm.

UK iPhone carrier O2 claims it has fixed the problems it has been experiencing with its data network, which it said earlier would "affect data services for some customers."

"We are working to fix this ASAP," says O2 in its frequently updated Twitter feed at the time.

Now it has stated "We've fixed our data network - you should now be able to access the internet again."

In July the mobile phone network used micro blogging service Twitter to warn its customers that it was having problems with providing web access and MMS functions. It is thought the outage affected hundreds of thousands of UK monthly contract users.

O2 eventually restored internet connections and MMS services for the "vast majority" of its mobile phone customers, including Apple iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users.

O2 holds an exclusive deal with Apple to offer the iPhone 3G and 3GS
