The Samsung Galaxy S II is the smash-hit successor to Samsung’s incredibly popular Galaxy S Android smartphone, and has been such a success that it narrowly edges out the iPhone to our Best Smartphone award. There are several reasons for the Samsung Galaxy S II’s enduring popularity: it has superb design and build qualities, and high-end specifications. As well as being one of the very first Gingerbread Android 2.3 smartphones, the S II has a great AmoLED screen made of toughened Gorilla Glass, excellent build quality and slick performance. We love it.

About the PC Advisor Awards 2012
Our annual roll call of honour considers every piece of hardware and software that has passed through our Test Centre over the past year. We look for innovation and excellence, outstanding performance and value for money.
Only excellent products make the PC Advisor Awards shortlist, and we congratulate all the manufacturers represented on the list. If a product still looks great from the view point of up to a year after its first review, the chances are that it is great.
That does, however, mean that our PC Advisor Awards coverage is not necessarily a buyer’s guide – for that you should visit our Test Centre and Reviews. Some of the products may no longer be available, and in some categories they may have been superseded.
Whittling down the shortlist to pick out individual winners isn’t easy. In all cases arguments could be (and were) made for products other than the eventual winners. But winners there must be.
