The release date in the UK has been a popular subject of late, but now it has finally been confirmed. The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date in the UK is 27th April 2013 (this changed as of 16 April 2013). See also: Samsung Galaxy S4 hands-on review.
Samsung Galaxy S4 release date - 27 April 2013
At an interesting launch event held in New York’s Radio City, Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 and highlighted the smartphone’s key features via a specially (and badly) written play that was performed and streamed via YouTube to the world. Take a look at Replay of the launch event video to find out just how weird it all was. Take a look at Samsung Galaxy S4 price in UK too.
Notable Samsung Galaxy S4 specs include a new 5-inch full HD screen, boasting 441ppi; a 13MP rear-facing camera; a powerful new 1.9 GHz Quad-Core Processor / 1.6 GHz Octa-Core Processor; the S4 now features an Infrared sensor too; while making the device lighter and thinner.
However, these specs are pretty standard for a modern high-end Android smartphone. Where the Samsung Galaxy S4 really hopes to distinguish itself from the competition is with it new features. The most impressive Samsung Galaxy S4 new features were the dual camera mode; Group Play for sharing music, photos, and game with those around you; eye controlled Smart Pause; as well as the new Air features that lets you control the phone without physically touching the phone. Samsung Galaxy S4 rumours
Recently there has been a huge increase in Samsung Galaxy S4 leaks and specs rumours. Whether this is a top-down marketing strategy to generate interest and excitement for the new flagship Samsung smartphone, or just plain leakiness is anyone’s guess. The result is the same; people want to see the Samsung Galaxy S4!
Samsung Galaxy S4 will have new TouchWiz interface - Screenshots
Screenshots have emerged that show the S4 to have a new TouchWiz interface. The real changes here are a more transparent look to the homescreen and an overhaul of the settings menu. See our Samsung Galaxy S4 screenshots show new TouchWiz interface article to find out more.
Hold your horses, it's not quite as mental as it seems. There will only be one S4 really, but it will be available in a total of six variations. There are two different colour options - black or white (classic) - and these colours will be available with storage capacities of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.
Leaks don’t really come much bigger than a picture leaking all of a new device’s specs, and that’s exactly what happened on Tuesday 4 March, when a screenshot surfaced on the internet showing exactly that.
The screen image [above] is three screenshots that have apparently been taken from a Samsung Galaxy S4 device while running a benchmarking app.
As PC Advisor’s Staff Writer Chris Martin says “the Galaxy S4 uses Samsung's Exynos Octa 5410 processor clocked at 1.8GHz which was announced at CES. The Exynos will be accompanied by 2GB of RAM and a PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. The benchmarking app also confirms that the Galaxy S4 will use a 4.99in display with a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080, just like the Sony Xperia Z.”
He adds “Other specifications have also been confirmed including a 13Mp rear camera, 2.1Mp front facing camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and internal storage of either 16GB or 32GB” and that the S4 will be running Android Jelly Bean 4.2.
No, don’t worry, you read that correctly. The Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature eye tracking technology to allow eye scrolling on the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The S4’s predecessor already boast some cool eye tracking technology that knew when you were looking at the phone, so it could power the screen off quicker when you weren’t, thus saving the battery.
Well now, thanks to a Samsung Employee tipping of a journalist at the New York Times, it seems that the S4 has built on the ‘Smart Stay’ technology. The feature, called Smart Scroll and Smart Pause, will apparently work by watching where your eyes are on the screen and if it sees you reading something near the bottom of a web page/email it will automatically scroll down a little bit for you.
This will be very impressive if it works seamlessly, but frustrating if it’s even slightly buggy. Either way it’s still something to look out for.
This feature was leaked on Tuesday 5th March and confirmed by screen shots on Wednesday 6th March. [Image below] The web moves fast!
Samsung Releases Galaxy S4 teaser video
In other unremarkable news, Samsung has released a Galaxy S4 teaser video this week too. Annoyingly it doesn’t confirm anything apart from the fact that there is an Unpacking event taking place on the 14th in New York and Samsung are very excited about it.
Other than that it consists of a white box with torches inside it and an annoying kid…there’s also some vague plot too. Watch it for yourself if you’re intrigued and want to find out nothing about the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Samsung Galaxy S4 release date set for March's Mobile Unpacked?
The guys over at Asian Economies News are reporting the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date to be announced at a Samsung Mobile Unpacked even on 22 March. While no specific Samsung Galaxy S4 release date is predicted, we can tell you from experience that smartphones' release dates are usually scheduled for a couple of weeks after they are announched. The S4's predecessor for example was launched on 3 May 2012 and available to buy on 29 May 2012. So bearing that in mind you can expect a Samsung Galaxy S4 release date to be anytime around mid-April. See Samsung Galaxy S4 launch and release dates revealed to find out more about this rumour.
Samsung Galaxy S4 release date to be announced at MWC?
The leak was reported by professional released date rumour spreader, The Korea Times, who claims to have been speaking to 'company officials and local parts suppliers'. The Korea Times reported that an official from the firm who asked not to be identified said, "Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at early next year’s mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona".
Now, we don't want to accuse The Korean Times of making up a load of twaddle, but the idea of Samsung launching the Galaxy S4 at Mobile World Congress 2013 seems to be hard to believe.
The early rumours surrounding the S3, were saying the same thing last year, but instead Samsung decided to keep the device away from MWC and let the hype grow for a further three months before finally launching its flagship smartphone the, Galaxy S4. So when you consider that the success the Korean tech giant had with launching the S3 at its own dedicated event at Earls Court in May, the thought of the Samsung Galaxy S4's release date and launch happening at the crowded MWC event starts to look like a pretty far-fetched rumour.
Update: Samsung Electronics' official Korean twitter page @samsungtomorrow was quick to deny this rumour. We ran the tweet (that was originally posted in Korean) through an online translator, and even though the translation didn't make complete sense, it's pretty clear that Samsung is denying the MWC Galaxy S4 release date rumour.
Samsung Galaxy S4 specs
That's right chaps, the rumour is that Samsung will be equipping the Galaxy S4 with a whopping 4.99-inch full HD screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080p.
This rumour is based on a road map (see right) that Anandtech found. The chart plots a time frame of Samsung screen launches with correct dates and screens since Q1 2011.
PC Advisor's Chris Martin said this about the possibility of a Samsung 4.99-inch HD screen "This would make sense seeing as a number of smartphones announced at CES this year featured 5in Full HD screens including the Sony Xperia Z, Huawei Ascend D2 and ZTE Grand S. It would mean keeping up with the Jones' at least."
According to the tech website Ddaily, the Samsung Galaxy S4 will launch with wireless charging capabilities. The report suggests that the Korean tech giant will be making a wireless charging cover as well as a wireless charging dock for the Samsung Galaxy S4.
The report goes on to say that Samsung will use Qi wireless charging standard for the Galaxy S4, what this means in layman's terms is that users can buy wireless charging docks from third parties as well as Samsung.
We'd have to say that this sounds like a very plausible rumour. It was initially rumoured that the Samsung Galaxy S3 would have wireless charging, but alas, it did not. But seeing as the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 both have wireless charging as part of their arsenal, so it would be very surprising if Samsung was to give it a swerve for its latest flagship smartphone.
Samsung Galaxy S4 specs: 4.99-inch full HD screen, a quad-core Cortex-A15 processor and 13Mp camera
Samsung Galaxy S4 specs rumours have been published by GSMArena, claiming the Android smartphone will feature a 4.99-inch full HD (1080p) Super AMOLED screen, a quad-core Cortex-A15 processor and 13Mp camera. No Samasung Galaxy S4 release date was mentioned in the article, but GSMArena did report that the new HD 1080p Super AMOLED screens are expected to be on show at CES in January. See Samsung Galaxy S3 review.
The new big HD screen doesn't come as much of a surprise as Samsung has a bit of a love affair when it comes to producing big-screened smartphones. See also: Group test: What's the best smartphone?
However, if the rumour 'the Samsung Galaxy S4 features a quad-core Cortex-A15 processor' proves to be true then you can expect the S4 to be a real beast. To put the processor into perceptive, it's a quad-core version of the 5250 chipset that powers the Nexus 10, its power could be frightening. Take a look at Samsung Galaxy S3 vs Apple iPhone 5 comparison review too.
Finally, the 13Mp camera rumour isn't really a new one. It was initially rumoured that the Galaxy Note 2 would features one, but had to be dropped because Sony couldn't make enough sensors in time for the release date. This rumour has a slice of added credibility due to the fact the S2 and S3 both had the same number of camera megapixels (8Mp)...a nice numeric boost to the S4's camera would be just what the doctor ordered to separate the S4 from it's predecessors. S4 to have flexible display
New Samsungs Galaxy S4 spec rumours suggest that it could be the first smartphones to market with a flexible display. The fight is on between tech vendors to produce the first bendy phone. LG, Philips, Sharp, Sony and Nokia are battling, but it's Samsung which is tipped to get there first, according to the BBC. A flexible screen could well be the headline feature of the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3. See Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3 could have flexible displays.
Samsung's screen will be: "foldable, rollable, wearable and more, [and] will allow for a high degree of durability through their use of a plastic substrate that is thinner, lighter and more flexible than… conventional LCD technology," according to a Samsung spokesperson.
The firm believes that the technology will be "very popular among consumers worldwide".
James Niccolai reports that "Samsung has announced its next Exynos processor for smartphones and tablets, an eight-core chip that uses a novel architecture to provide more performance without sucking up battery life."
The chip will be aimed at high-end smartphones and tablets, said Stephen Woo, president of Samsung Electronics' components business, in a keynote at the International CES in Las Vegas.
