Apple has revealed the new iPad mini tablet alongside its 4th-generation iPad. Here we reveal all the tech specs for Apple's new iPad mini tablet, from its processor and memory to the screen size and resolution, the weight and thickness. We're going to go point by point to do this as quick as possible: please forgive the brevity...
The iPad mini's specs in brief, then:
An entirely new design, based on an aluminium and glass enclosure
A thickness of 7.2mm - that's 23 per cent thinner than the 4th gen iPad (and as thin as a pencil, Apple pointed out)
The iPad mini weighs 0.68 pounds (in American numbers), or 308g. That's 53 percent lighter than the 4G iPad. And as light as a pad of paper, apparently.
The iPad mini will be available in black (with a slate back) and white (with a sliver back).
The iPad mini will come in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB flavours, and in Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi plus 3G/cellular versions. We've got the UK pricing and availability details here.
Apps for iPad mini
All software designed for the full-size iPad should work unchanged.
Apple specifically mentioned that GarageBand, Pages, Paper and the game Real Racing II all work fine.
iPad mini screen specs
The iPad mini has a 7.9 inch screen (measured diagonally) with a resolution of 1024 x 768. That's 29.6 square inches of screen space, or 191 square centimetres in English numbers.
The iPad mini offers 49 percent more surfing space when browsing the web in portrait than a 7in Android tablet. In landscape the difference is even more: the space is 67 percent larger.
That 7.9in screen isn't a Retina display, though. It offers 163 pixels per inch (ppi), compared to the full-size iPad's 264 pixels per inch (ppi).
The iPad mini's screen also has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.

iPad mini dimensions
The Wi-Fi-only iPad mini has the following dimensions:
Height: 200 mm (7.87 inches)
Width: 134.7 mm (5.3 inches)
Depth: 7.2 mm (0.28 inches)
Weight: 308g (0.68 pounds)
The 3G/cellular model is a fraction heavier, at 312 g (0.69 pounds) but is otherwise physically the same.
iPad mini wireless capabilities
The iPad mini offers 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, at 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band frequencies. It also has Bluetooth 4.0.
iPad mini processor and components
The iPad mini has a dual-core A5 processor: that's the same chip inside the iPad 2, so don't expect superfast performance.
FaceTime HD front-side camera
5Mp iSight camera
LTE Ultrafast wireless
802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi
...and 10 hour battery life, matching the 4G full size iPad.
Apple today revealed its highly anticipated iPad mini at the San Jose California Theatre. Apple CEO Tim Cook took to the stage during the keynote, which was streamed across the globe on the company's website, to reveal the new smaller tablet.
The iPad mini sits between Apple's iPhone and the 9.7in iPad, competing directly with tablets from the likes of Amazon, Google and Samsung.
