Smartphones are to be banned from the Alton Towers theme park.
The trial scheme, which is set to take place for a week from May 25, will see the Staffordshire theme-park turned into a 'PDA Free Zone'. Alton Towers says the rule has been created in a bid to help parents switch-off from the office and connect fully with their families.
Any adults caught brandishing a device will be asked to store the handset at one of five 'PDA Drop Off Zones', located throughout the park, where smartphones can be left safely for the day.
If the scheme proves successful, it will be implemented on a full-time basis.
Russell Barnes, divisional director at Alton Towers Resort explains: "What we have here is the ultimate short-break location, where every member of the family can unwind and have fun. We feel it's so important for parents and kids to focus on nothing more than having the best possible time, we are prepared to take drastic action to ensure that parents really leave their work behind."
