Unlike most smartphone launches, OnePlus long confirmed it would be bringing a new phone to the market this year and it didn't take long before we knew it will be the OnePlus 2.

Also unusual is the way OnePlus is gradually announcing different things about the new phone on social media such as when we'll first see it, how much it will cost and specific specifications. Here we've rounded up all the official details about the OnePlus 2 so you know what's coming.

OnePlus 2: Release date and price

We know that the OnePlus 2 will be announced on 27 July and it will be the 'world's first product launch in VR. The firm has made its own Cardboard especially for the event and the 30,000 units have sold out.

The firm has also announced, promised even, that the OnePlus 2 will cost less than $450 which translates to around £300 suggesting the OnePlus 2 will cost £299.

OnePlus 2: Processor and ports

The first specification OnePlus confirmed is that the processor will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 which is 64-bit and octa-core. But it's version 2.1 of the chip and the company ensures that there won't be any overheating problems like other phones have seen - it will be "cooler than ever".

Next on the list is a USB Type-C port which is found on the new MacBook and is expected to be on most new devices from now on. It's reversible, charges faster and can be used to charge other devices.

OnePlus 2: Fingerprint scanner and memory

For security, OnePlus is matching rivals including Apple and Samsung but putting a fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 2. This will presumably be used to unlock the device and possibly other things like authorising payments.

The last thing, for now, is that the OnePlus 2 will come with a whopping 4GB of RAM which is the most we've seen in a smartphone. Combine this with the Snapdragon 810 and the phone will be something of a powerhouse.

OnePlus 2: Design and invites

It was a question posed on Twitter, but OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus 2 will feature an 'industrial design'. To us, and lots of commenters, this means we can expect a metal body which is a step up from the original. It also lines up with rumours.

We can also reveal that there will be a new invite system for the OnePlus 2. For starters there will be up to 50 times more invites on offer this year and a reservation list will let you know as soon as an invite is available - so you don't have to wait around on social media waiting for invites to be released.
