MSI says it has started shipping its competitor to Asus's Eee PC – the MSI Wind U100 – in the US.

The Windows XP Home-based ultraportable laptop, which features Intel's Atom processor, a 10in screen and 1GB RAM, is now on its way to those who pre-ordered it, and is available to buy at various US online stores, including Amazon and Fry's, for $499.99 (£250).

The product is expected to become available in the UK later this month for around £330, and some retailers, including play.com, are already listing it.
