Web hosting provider 1&1 has announced a new feature - SiteLock - which lets customers check that their website remains as secure as possible. The partnership with SiteLock means website owners can scan their site for malware and any vulnerabilities that could allow malware to be installed.
The promotional offer means that, until the end of 2012, 1&1 will provide this security service free for one domain, for the life of any new shared hosting or eShop contract.
It isn't just a website’s function that can be affected - it could also potentially harm customers visiting the website and damage an online brand.
SiteLock Basic (which is what's offered for free) scans your site once per month, for up to 25 designated pages. SiteLock Premium, which is offered for £4.99 exc VAT per month, allows for daily scans to be conducted for up to 500 pages of a website.
Any problems turned up by the scan are reported so any security issues can be resolved immediately. Plus, you can choose to display the SiteLock security seal on your website to reassure visitors.
