Speaking with Siliconera, Capcom producer Ryota Niitsuma confirmed that the upcoming new edition of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will not be available as a DLC upgrade to existing players of the game.
"Right now, we?re only thinking about releasing a disc version," he said. "Given the development schedule, there wasn't enough time to work out all of the details to release it as downloadable content, as well. There is so much data in the game it was easier to go this route."
Easier for Capcom, perhaps -- those who have already purchased the game would probably prefer a lower-cost upgrade option rather than having to pay $40 for an updated version of a game they already own. But it doesn't look like it's going to happen -- not immediately, anyway.
