Sony PS4 system update 2.0: Release date
At its Gamescom 2014 press conference, Sony confirmed that the 2.0 system update will be released this autumn, meaning it will arrive in the next few months. We're sorry we can't be more specific but since we're already half way through August we expect that Sony will share a release date soon.
Sony PS4 system update 2.0: New features
The main new feature of the PS4 2.0 system update is Share Play. This allows you to create a local co-op experience but online by inviting a friend to join your game—even when they don't own a copy of it themselves.
Note: Share Play requires PlayStation Plus.
You could invite them into your Club on Driveclub or jump into one of their games to help out. Share Play will share your screen with the other player and allow them to take control.
"The best way to think about Share Play is like a 'virtual sofa'. With this first-of-its-kind feature, you’ll be able to play games with a friend just as if you were together in the same room," said Sony.
The update will also add broadcast and video share features, which users have been requesting. This includes both uploading your game play footage and dedicated YouTube app. It includes the ability to search for PlayStation Network users by their real name.
A feature called 'What's New' will get enhanced real-time activity through friend-of-friend suggestions, allowing instant access to friends' and recently played games' broadcast.
