Today kicks off another iteration of probably my favorite charity event, Awesome Games Done Quick. If you've never heard of AGDQ, here's the quick rundown: Some of the best video game players in the world speedrun their favorite games live for about a week. And when I say "some of the best video game players in the world," you can't even understand how good these people are until you watch.
Here's a video from last year of a guy (Sinisterwon) playing 98% of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out with a blindfold on:
This year's event runs from today (January 4) through January 10, and you can check out the schedule and where to watch here.
And like June's Summer Games Done Quick, the event is accompanied by a brand new Humble Bundle which will run for the duration and donate to the same charity as AGDQ (Prevent Cancer Foundation). The bundle's pay-anything tier features a few popular speedrunning games--Duke Nukem 3D, the original Shadow Warrior, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, and Volgarr the Viking.
Pay more than $6 and you'll also receive Shantae: Risky's Revenge and Speedrunners, which is still in early access, plus a thirty-day subscription to Twitch Turbo. $10 or more will also net you Escape Goat 2 and a 3-month subscription to X-Split. And those of you with deep pockets who pay more than $30 will get some t-shirts and buttons and tchotchkes and stuff, including a rad Oddworld shirt.
The bundle itself is only so-so, but hey--it's charity.
Regardless of your interest in the bundle, I recommend tuning into the actual livestreams on and off for the next week. It's seriously some intense gaming. And hey, Sinisterwon will be making another attempt at playing Punch-Out blindfolded around 1AM Pacific Time on January 8. Highly recommended.
