Nicholas Lennon has been appointed to head up the local operation as country manager. He's been with Mimecast since 2007, working in the UK. Olivia Dempster has also joined the vendor as its channel sales manager and Alison O'Hare has come onboard as customer engagement director. It expects to have 25 employees in Australia within the year.

The Victorian Government was instrumental in bringing Mimecast to Melbourne, providing business support, advice and assistance across a number of areas.

Lennon said a key component of its growth strategy will be the channel, particularly Microsoft partners.

"We're looking to grow our service business that's heavily driven through the channel," Lennon said. "We've got a very hands-on approach with the channel to help them develop business and get themselves into new opportunities."

It has about 15 channel partners to date in Australia and Lennon plans to keep it growing. In Australia, the company has about 300 customers and also has a local support desk.

It has a program in place for partners to help them develop a profitable Cloud business. The tiered-program provides margins for partners, training, education, partner portal and marketing tools.

"We also help them sell and create business. We've got a market development team to help them create business and we bring those customer leads back into the channel," he said. "Once they're established, we support them through marketing and lead generation initiatives that allow them to create more business."
