Having played with Vista for 18 months, we hope PC Advisor can be forgiven for getting excited about the launch of the new operating system. And yet I still can’t help feeling that PC World is getting a little too hot under the collar with its plans to open up at dawn on launch day.

Although US outlets such as Best Buy and CompUSA have similar plans, I reckon the traditional UK cynicism and level-headedness will convince even the most fanatical Microsoft fan that they can wait until PC World’s normal opening hours before picking up their copy.

Will people be grappling with each other to be the first to walk home with a boxed copy of Windows Ultimate? Will PC World have to close its doors to prevent people getting crushed in the rush? I’ve been invited to PC World’s Vista launch day event on January 30, so hope to be able to tell you from first-hand experience. Wish me luck.
