Samsung WB2000 HD digital cameraLast year Samsung came out with a digital camera with two screens; this year it's opted for a camera with two modes. The WB2000 can record digital video at the same time as it is taking a digital photo.

The simultaneous recording mode is an interesting development as video footage and photos are usually captured at different resolutions. The Samsung WB2000, however, is able to take 10Mp still images while also shooting 1080p high-resolution video.

OverBoard Waterproof Zoom Lens Camera Case

If you want to take underwater photos but don't have the money to invest in a camera specifically designed for the task, then OverBoard's Waterproof Zoom Lens Camera Case could be just the thing.

Made from an environmentally friendly matt material with many of the same properties as PVC, the Zoom Lens Camera Case is just half a millimetre thick. It can be submerged up to 19ft and the camera will still be protected, allowing users to capture underwater snaps. The case also offers protection from other substances such as oil and grease.

Ricoh has unveiled the CX3, a digital compact camera that comes with a 10.7x optical zoom lens.

The 10Mp camera, which has a 29mm thick body, features a 3in LCD display to preview images, along with an Image sensor shift method image stabiliser to reduce blur when capturing pictures.

Nikon Coolpix S3000 and S4000 digital compact cameras

Nikon has expanded its Coolpix range of digital compact camera with the S3000 and the S4000.

The 12Mp S3000 is the successor to the Coolpix S220 digital compact camera, and features a body that's just 19mm thick. It has a 4x optical zoom, 2.7in LCD display and electronic vibration technology that aids the user in taking blur-free photos. The camera has a 'smile timer' that automatically identifies when the subject is smiling and takes the snap at the appropriate moment. It also has a skin-softening function to even out the appearance of a subject's skin tone.

Nikon Coolpix S8000 10x optical zoom camera

Nikon has unveiled the Coolpix S800, an ultra-thin compact digital camera with a 10x optical zoom. Armed with a 14.2Mp sensor, the Nikon Coolpix S8000 costs £249.

The Coolpix S8000 has a 3in LCD display and, as well as taking highly detailed close-up, can record 30fps video at a resolution of 1080x720. Rather than having to fiddle with a dial to set the Coolpix to record footage, the camera has a dedicated video button.

Swann ActionCam camcorder

Swann has launched a small and lightweight camcorder designed for capturing footage during extreme sports. The Swann ActionCam is ideal for skiers and snowboarders as well as offroad cyclists.

Swann says the ActionCam has been specifically designed for "high impact, high intensity, extreme sports" and can withstand vibrations and knocks and bumps.

Samsung has launched three new digital cameras, the ST60, ST70 and PL80.

The 17mm-thick Samsung ST70 is a 14Mp model with 5x optical zoom and both digital and optical image stabilisers. The 12Mp ST60, meanwhile, has the same 91x56x17mm dimensions but only a 4x optical zoom.

Genius G-Shot HD550T camcorderYou might think there was no form of gadgetry yet to be given a touchscreen makeover. With the launch of a touchscreen camcorder, we are beginning to wonder what else could possibly be touch-enabled.

The Genius G-Shot HD550T camcorder can capture 5Mp still photos, 720p video at 30 frames per second (hence it having the HD tag) and a 3x optical zoom. It's the touchscreen part that has us wondering, however. After all, if you're trying to hold the camera steady in order to catch the action in blur-free detail, jabbing at its display is hardly conducive to a successful shoot.

Casio has unveiled four new digital compact camera. It claims the Exilim EX-H15 is the world's first high-speed, high-zoom digital camera.

The EX-H15 is a 14.1Mp camera with a 24mm wide-angle lens and 10x optical zoom. Equipped with a 3in LCD display, the Exilim EX-H15 has a 'Premium Auto' mode that analyses the light conditions in the shot you've framed and selects the optimal settings for it.

Canon LEGRIA HF S digital camcorder

Canon has added three high-definition camcorder ranges, HF S, HF M and HF R, to its LEGRIA line-up.

All three new models have a Smart Auto mode. First introduced on Canon's digital compact cameras, this automatically identifies the type of shot, as well as shooting conditions and then optimises the camcorder settings to create the best shot possible.

Canon PowerShot A495 digital cameraCanon has unveiled two new PowerShot digital cameras. The PowerShot A495 and the A490 are both 10Mp cameras with a 2.5in LCD display and 3.3x optical zoom.

The two new models replace the current PowerShot A480. The superior PowerShot A495 model can detect up to 18 different shooting scenes, while the PowerShot A490 detects up to 13. A Smart Auto mode automatically adjusts the camera's settings to capture the optimum shot based on the shooting conditions.

Sony Alpha a450 digital SLR cameraSony has launched a new model in its Alpha digital SLR camera range. The Sony Alpha a450 is a 14.2Mp camera that can fire off 7 frames per second still shots. It goes onsale in February.

Powered by a BIONZ processor and with a Super SteadyShot mode to ensure sharp results, the Alpha a450 has a 2.7in Live View LCD. Using this, an image can be digitally enlarged by a factor of up to 14x to confirm the sharpness and clarity of an image. The a450's standard 5fps continuous burst mode can be boosted to 7fps by preselecting the AE (auto-exposure) and AF (autofocus) settings and putting the camera in speed priority mode. Impressively, it has a CIPA-rated battery life of 1,050 photos.

Casio Exilim EX-G1 waterproof camera

Casio says its EX-G1 camera, set to launch in January, will be the slimmest waterproof, shockproof model on the market.

A 12.1Mp digital camera with 3x optical zoom, the Casio Exilim EX-G1 will be a scant 19.9mm thick. Casio has tested the EX-G1 and says it is fully waterproof to a depth of 10 feet and will be able to be used underwater for up to an hour before needing to be dried off. It can withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees C.

Olympus PEN EP-2 cameraOlympus is to offer a second MicroFourThirds camera in its retro-style PEN line of digital cameras. The Olympus PEN EP-2 will go onsale in the UK in January at a cost of £850.

Its key distinguishing feature will be the inclusion of a electronic viewfinder (EVF) that sits atop the main camera body. In June, Olympus unveiled the PEN EP-1, a compact digital SLR camera with a smaller lens than standard FourThirds models. It was criticised for having neither EVF nor a flash.

Philips SPF7008 Bluetooth digital photo framePhilips has launched an 8in digital photo frame that offers Bluetooth connectivity and accepts almost any type of memory card. The Philips SPF7008 can receive photos sent wirelessly from a mobile phone.

The 8in screen has a standard 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 800x600 pixels. It has discreet touch-sensitive controls around the frame's edges, an auto-dimming mode to save energy and a 130-degree viewing angle. As well as initiating slideshow playback direct from a USB memory key or a removable memory card, the photo frame is able to play AVI, WMV and MOV video clips. The frame has a built-in speaker for this purpose. A comprehensive list of memory card formats is supported, from Secure Digital and SDHC to xD Picture Card and Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro DUO.

The GXR measures 69×58x71mm, making it the size of a compact camera, but the interchangeable lenses gives the device the same picture quality and different scene shooting ability as an SLR.

Find your stolen photos online

Digital photographyA friend recently sent me a link to a site that was prominently using a photography I had taken of some wolves. The problem? I hadn't given the owners permission to use my photo, which they had 'borrowed' from my Flickr page.

I asked them to remove the photo, and they did - but not everyone out there is so reasonable. You can watermark your photos to prevent this sort of thing from happening. But there are some other ways to find your photos online and see if they're being used inappropriately.
