Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam

Creative has launched a new pocket-sized video camera. The Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam offers a 640x480-pixel VGA video resolution and has a 2in colour screen. Pricing has yet to be confirmed.

The Creative Vado Pocket Video Cam has a 2GB internal memory – enough, says Creative, to record up to 2 hours of video. It has a USB connector that can swivelled out and attached to a PC or laptop. When not in use, the USB connector can be pushed out of sight. The Vado comes in either silver or hot pink and weighs 90g (3oz).

Olympus E-520 digital SLR camera

Olympus has confirmed the launch of a 10.1Mp digital SLR camera, the E-520. The £479 digital SLR model will go onsale in the UK in June.

The 10Mp camera has a 2.7in LCD viewfinder for composing shots and has a Live View mode – still far from the norm on dSLR cameras. A burst mode offers 3.5-frames-per-second shooting in RAW mode.

Canon launches Selphy CP770 and CP760 photo printers

Canon has added two new direct photo printers to its Selphy range. Described as 'home photo labs', the Selphy CP770 and CP760 are intended to offer "a convenient combination of lab-quality photo printing and supreme ease of operation".

The Canon Selphy CP770 has a 2.5in colour LCD display on which photos can be previewed and approved before the user presses Print and Canon says it has improved the usability of both models with easier navigation.

Parrot 'designer collection' Bluetooth digital photo frame

Aiptek £149 high-definition camcorders

Firebox is adding two budget-priced HD camcorders to its line-up of gadgets. The Aiptek AHD 200 and the Z300HD cost just £149 and £199 respectively.

The Aiptek AHD 200 has a 2.4in LCD screen for previewing footage in 16:9 aspect ratio, while the curvier Aiptek Z300HD combines a 3x optical zoom with close-ups as near as 5cm from the subject with the ability to take digital photos at up to 8Mp resolution. It also has an internal light for night-time video shoots.

Sony Handycam HDR-TG3E HD camcorder

Sony has been showing off its soon-to-launch £649 Handycam HDR-TG3E – a flash memory-based digital camcorder it claims is the smallest in the world to offer 1,080i high-definition video capture.

The Sony Style Handycam HDR-TG3E is described as “the perfect partner for nights out or weekends away” (what on earth could they mean?) and, according to Sony’s product manager who gave us an exclusive demonstration last week, is aimed at the under 35s who like to party with friends and want a classy-looking, cachet camcorder on which to record their hijinks.

Nikon Coolpix P80 and S52 digital cameras

Nikon has added three new digital cameras to its Coolpix range.

The Nikon Coolpix P80 is a 10.1Mp camera that features a 18x Nikkor zoom lens and vibration reduction image stabilisation. Nikon claims that, when combined with the rubberised grip and thumb rest, these features make it almost impossible to take a shaky or blurry shot.

Sanyo Xacti CG9 digital camcorder

Sanyo is adding to its lineup of flash memory camcorders with the launch today of the £199 Xacti CG9.

A 9.1Mp camcorder with CMOS image sensor, the Sanyo Xacti CG9 captures high-definition Mpeg4/H.264 video that can be played back at 60fps (frames per second).

The red-liveried Sony DVP-FX720 DVP-FX720 sounds as though it ought to support 720p HD playback, but is in fact aimed at the lower end of the market, offering multi-format DVD+/- R/RW playback so users can show off their home-recorded video footage.

Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS, 90 IS and 970 IS digital cameras

Canon is expanding its Digital Ixus range of compact cameras with three new 10Mp models. The 10Mp Canon Digital Ixus 85 IS replaces the 70 IS - the best selling digital camera of last year.

The Digital Ixus 970 IS sits at the top of the range and is described by Canon as its "most optically advanced" digital camera. It is priced at £299. The 10Mp camera has a 5x optical zoom, 2.5in LCD screen and a multi-control dial for scrolling through menus, changing settings and reviewing images. It comes in a two-tone metallic finish.

Toshiba is launching a high-definition digital camcorder. The Camileo Pro HD camcorder will cost around £149.

Toshiba's Camileo Pro HD is a pocket-sized camcorder that can record HD footage at a resolution of 1,280x720p. It features 128MB integrated storage, a 5Mp CMOS sensor and 3x optical and 4x digital zoom.

Ricoh launches R8 compact digital camera

Ricoh has launched the R8 compact digital camera. The successor to its R7 digital compact camera, the R8 is a 10Mp camera features a 7.1 optical wide angle zoom lens and 2.7in HVGA LCD screen. It costs £249.

Measuring 102x58x26mm, the slim-line has been re-designed and includes a rubber hand grip that "fits perfectly in your hand". Users will benefit from the CCD-shift vibration correction function and Face recognition mode, which automatically identifies faces in a scene and optimises the focus, exposure and white balance for the faces.

Sony Alpha a350 digital SLR camera

Sony has expanded its range of digital SLR cameras with two new models. The Sony Alpha α350 is a 14.2Mp camera while the Sony Alpha αX300 will shoot images up to 10.2Mp.

Both models feature APS-C CCD sensors, a 2x digital zoom, Super SteadyShot anti-shake technology and Sony’s Quick AF Live View. Sony says this means users will be able to shoot at very high speeds while also enjoying a live preview of what's in shot - something that's particularly tricky when high levels of detail are being captured.

Sony DPF-V700 and DPF-V900 digital photo frames

Sony is muscling in on the digital photo frame market with the launch of three displays. Two have 7in screens, while the other, the Sony DPF-V900 is a 9in widescreen digital photo frame.

One of the 7in frames, the DPF-V700, also has a widescreen aspect ratio, while the DPF-V70 is a more traditional 4:3 ratio model. The two higher-specification frames offer support for HDMI (high-definition media interface), so photos stored on them can be displayed as static images or as a slideshow on a high-definition TV screen.

New digital camcorders launched by Canon

Alongside its new range of digital compact cameras and a brand new digital SLR, Canon has also launched a range of digital camcorders that are compact, lightweight and feature flash memory, which is quick, quiet and allows users to shoot for longer without running out of power.

The FS100 and FS11 record to SD or SDHC memory cards, which make it ultra-easy to share or upload film onto a computer while the HF10 and HF100 offer HD recording capabilities. Prices and availability dates have yet to be released.
