NexusFile V

Windows Explorer isn't a good file manager. And Microsoft, for all their improvements elsewhere in Windows 7, have somehow continued to make Explorer worse than it was before. But if you're tired of the lack of features, then there are some simple alternatives. NexusFile, in particular, offers some useful extras that could really help to boost your file management productivity.

There's a dual-pane interface, for instance - you can view separate folders in each pane, ideal for simpler dragging and dropping.

Right-click a file and you'll find options to, say copy or move that file to a given folder. You can also change the file's time and date stamp, add a text comment to the file, or (if it's an archive file) extract its contents through integration with a variety of archiving tools.

There are plenty of other useful utilities, too. Like ones to help you securely delete confidential files, batch rename a whole group of selected files, copy discs, find and delete redundant files, compare folders, split and join files, even a built-in FTP client - it's all here.

And NexusFile is supremely configurable, so if you're unhappy with some aspect of the program then there's a good chance that it can be changed. Fonts, colours, window transparency, start folder, keyboard shortcuts and more are all tweakable from the Options menu, and you can even set an option like the default button on a "delete" warning dialog: "No" for safety, "Yes" for speed.
