Easy Duplicate Finder is a tool that scans your PC's drives for duplicate music, pictures, files, even Outlook emails and contacts (the Help says this only works with Outlook 2007/ 2010).
At its simplest, you can just choose your scan type, add whatever drives or folders you'd like to check, then leave the program to do its work.
But if you need more control, there are plenty of options available. You can have the program search for particular file types only (images and videos, say). You might choose to exclude specific folders or files (find all duplicates, apart from music). Easy Duplicate Finder can filter files based on their size, too, perhaps ignoring smaller duplicates to focus on what really matters.
The scanning process itself seemed relatively slow to us, but once it's complete the program is again very flexible. Any duplicates are displayed in a list. You're able to view any file, its properties or location, manually delete it, even remove it from the list. Easy Duplicate Finder's Assistant allows you to keep the newest, oldest or original files with a click. Duplicates may then be deleted, renamed, moved, even replaced with a symbolic link.
There are interesting extras elsewhere, too. For example, "iTunes Library Synchronization" will sync your iTunes library after removing duplicates, which should ensure duplicate files are removed from all your devices.
Please note, this is the trial version of a commercial tool, and there are plenty of marketing hassles. The program wants to install other tools along with itself; there are regular prompts to "register" (which actually means "buy"), yet very few details on cost, the extra features you're getting, and so on.
Version 220.127.116.11 brings:
