Kaspersky Internet Security 2014 is the latest version of Kaspersky's powerful security suite, a combination of antivirus, firewall, spam filter, antiphishing tool, ad blocker and parental controls system (amongst other functionality).
This new edition adds "Trusted Applications Mode", an extra layer of security in which only known and safe programs are allowed to run on your system. Sounds interesting, although beware, Kaspersky says the availability of Trusted Applications Mode depends on your region, provider and other technical factors (it seems like you'll just have to check the trial version to see if you're in luck).
Elsewhere, the Parental Controls system now includes a permissions system to decide who can run particular games and applications.
Safe Money automatically protects your transactions with even more online banks and web stores, while also allowing you to choose your preferred browser.
There's new protection against screen lockers (malware which locks your system and demands a fee to release it), while the anti-phishing module has been improved and updated.
And a stronger focus on performance brings a host of welcome benefits. The suite starts more quickly; GUI performance has been improved; resource use is down; and the system switches to a new "limited activity" mode when your PC is idle, so reducing its workload and helping to extend battery life.
