Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 (v14.0.0.4228) Technical Preview

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2014 Technical Preview is an early beta version of Kaspersky's security suite.

There's a distinct shortage of detail on any new features, but one immediately apparent change is the optimised, simplified and even more Windows 8-like interface (there's touch screen support, too). At first glance this looks a little plain to us, but Kaspersky says it's not completed yet, so we'll reserve judgement for now.

A more practical benefit is that the new release should use less resources. When it's finished, anyway - at the moment, like most betas, it's relatively slow.

And an official post on the Kaspersky forum says there will be more features reported later, presumably as they're finalised.

This isn't the most exciting of betas, then, but if you're interested in trying it out, the process is easy enough. Download the installer; remove any existing Kaspersky installation on your target PC; back up your system (if it contains anything important), then complete the setup process as normal.

Our first tests suggested the new release has a few problems, with the program initially reporting an odd activation error, then notably reducing the performance of our PC. This is only to be expected for a beta, though, so be prepared for possible issues, and don't rely on Anti-Virus 2014 protecting you for very long: it's just not reliable enough yet.
