Milouz Market is a simple and free software manager to help you find popular free software, install and update it.
Just install and launch the program and it'll immediately display a report on your installed applications. Those it recognises, anyway. There's only just over 50 on the "officially supported" list, but they're at least well chosen, and include 7-Zip, Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader, avast! free antivirus, AVG Free, CCleaner, Dropbox, FFDShow, Freemake Video Converter, GIMP, Google Chrome, Java, K-Lite Codec Pack, LibreOffice, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, Opera, Picasa, Recuva, Skype, UltraVNC, VirtualBox, VLC Media Player and µTorrent.
At the top of this report is a list of any programs which have updates available. Just click the Update button for anything you like (or use the Update All button to select everything) and Milouz Market will download and install these for you. It'll try to do so silently, too, although this depends on the individual application (some will require you to manually work your way through an installer).
Your system is fully up-to-date? You can also use Milouz Market to find and install programs you might find useful. Suppose you need to create PDF files, for instance - scroll down the report and you'll find "PDF Creator", which looks like it might be relevant. Clicking its Help icon displays more information about the program, and if you decide it's right for you then clicking Update will download PDF Creator and install it, without you having to do anything else at all.
And if you decide you don't need a supported application any more, after all, again Milouz Market can help. Just find it in the list, click Del and it'll be removed for you.
There are a few small issues here. Despite being nominally in English, for instance, odd bits of Milouz Market are still distractingly displayed in French (the Help dialog has a "Fermer" button, for example). And the "Del" button will remove an application without asking for confirmation, perhaps annoying if you click it accidentally.
We'd also prefer to have seen the program available in a portable version, rather than requiring installation.
Still, Milouz Market is also compact and easy-to-use, while the developer is openly asking for new applications to support, and appears to have plenty of ideas about where the tool should go next. If you're looking to set up a new PC any time soon then the program could save you a lot of time.
