COMODO Rescue Disk 2.0

COMODO Rescue Disk 2.0 is a bootable environment (an .ISO image) including COMODO Cleaning Essentials for Linux, which can help you to remove stubborn malware which other programs can't touch.

Don't be put off by the mention of "Linux", if you're strictly Windows-only. There are no real technicalities here. Once you've agreed to the program licence agreement, the Rescue Disk boots to the desktop and immediately launches COMODO Cleaning Essentials. All you have to do is click "Smart Scan", "Full Scan" or "Custom Scan" and wait as the program scours your PC looking for and eliminating any threats.

If there's going to be a complication it could be in allowing the program to connect to COMODO's server, to download a virus signature update. If your system is connected to a router then this shouldn't be an issue, but if you have problems then clicking the icon of two monitors (top-right of the screen) will display more information on your network setup.

And it's worth noting that COMODO's Rescue Disk can now import the latest virus signature database manually, if you can download the file somewhere else. Click Tools > Import Signature Database within COMODO Cleaning Essential to make this happen.

There's no guarantee any of this will be successful, of course, but every PC owner needs at least one rescue disk to hand, just in case of emergencies. So if you're currently a little short, then COMODO Rescue Disk 2.0 seems a good choice: it's a reasonably lightweight download, yet remains capable and extremely easy to use.
