Toolwiz Pretty Photo is an unusual photo editor which drops many of the usual complexities, yet still includes many different ways to improve the look of your images.
The core editing features are relatively basic. You can crop and resize an image, for instance, and adjust brightness, contrast, levels, hue/ saturation and colour balance in various ways, but that's about it. You don't get layer support, paint tools, selection options or anything more advanced.
By way of compensation, though, the program does provide a lengthy list of tools to help improve your photos.
Click Image Filter > Art Filters, for instance, and you'll find more than 50 filters which can instantly apply a new look to your image: Canvas, Cartoon, Color Emboss, Sketch, Polaroid, Pencil, and the list goes on.
You can dress up your portrait shots with all kinds of fun extras, quickly adding eyebrows, eyelashes, glasses, wigs, hats and more. And there's a surprising number of options, too. If you decide your dog would look better with some glasses, for instance, you'll find the program gives you more than 100 frames to choose from.
And you're able to add lots of different objects to an images, too: text, shapes, speech bubbles, arrows, and assorted other symbols and clipart-type items.
There are also some problems here. The interface is poorly thought out, for instance, and less than intuitive in many areas. And there's no Help at all (even clicking Help > About just redirects you to the Toolwiz website).
And one major issue is that you can't use the program to edit large images (we're not sure of the precise limit, but it seems to be anything above 2,048 pixels on one axis). Open these and the program demands that you resize them.
Still, if you just want to enhance your image for displaying and sharing, rather than printing, Pretty Photo does have a lot to offer. Especially, perhaps, for children, who will have hours of fun playing around with the various retouching options.
