The Recycle Bin provides you with a handy safety net in case you delete some files and later change your mind. But on the other hand, it is also a huge waste of space and it could be regarded as something of a privacy threat. It’s easy to forget that any of the files you have deleted can be recovered, and this means that anyone else who has access to your computer could access the files you thought you had deleted.

Although emptying the Recycle Bin will not render your file unrecoverable, it does make it much easier than normal to empty this temporary file repository. Having to locate the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop, right click and select the option to empty it means that it is something that is easily put off and often forgotten about completely.

This handy free utility adds an icon to the notification area of the system tray. This simple icon enables you to see at a glance, not matter which program you are in or what you are doing, whether there are any files in the Recycle Bin or not. But this tiny app can also be used to empty out the trash without the need to minimize your running programs to access the desktop.

This is a very basic tool, but there is scope for some very limited customization if you are comfortable editing .ini files. If you head to the program installation folder you can change the settings in the .ini files to change what happens when you double click the icon, choose whether a delete confirmation should be display, disable sounds and more.
