Twitter is something of a unique social network that can be used to not only expressed opinion, but also chat with friends, keep up to date with the latest news, share images and much more besides. This is the type of service that is ideally suited for use on the move, and this is precisely what the Android app enables you to do. There is support for multiple accounts so if you keep one for business and one for personal use, they can both be managed from within the same app.
If you are using the app to share photos when you are out and about, you have a selection of image hosting services that you can use, but there is no choice when it comes to URL shortening; in fact there is very little scope for customization and tweaking within the app at all. The basics of accessing your timeline, direct messages and conversation threads is easy enough, as is the process of creating lists to make it easier to manage a huge number of people you follow.
It could be argued that the interface is in need of an overhaul as new features that have been added to Twitter feel somewhat shoehorned into the mobile version of the app. Navigating to different section of the app can take longer than it should, and not everything is intuitively located. It’s something of a shame to find that there is no support for gestures such as swiping left and right to move through different sections of the app, but this is really a minor annoyance.
The latest version of the app, version 4.0.2, ships with these new features/changes:
