To do lists are quite plentiful in the app store, so no matter how your mind works you should be able to find one that suits you. Astrid To-Do is an app version of the Astrid online to do list service which can be accessed from your iOS device. Unlike many other similar tools, Astrid has a strong focus on collaborative lists, so it is ideal for groups that are working on a project, but it can also be used by families.
To make it as easy as possible to get items into your list, you can go down the usual route of typing your entries, but voice recognition is also available. Each of the tasks you create can be made public or private, and you have the option of sharing your lists or individual tasks via Facebook, Twitter or email. Astrid boasts great support for email, and messages can be used to add tasks, add comments or mark tasks as completed.
The app can be used on its own, but the tasks you create can also be integrated into your iOS calendar. Notes can be added to your list entries to provide additional details – this is particularly useful in the case of shared lists. This is a very versatile tool that can be used to manage everything from business and DIY projects to shopping lists and family trips.
It is difficult to find fault with Astrid, but the one complaint that could be levelled against the app is the fact that it is not a universal app. iPhone and iPod users can revel in fullscreen list management, but iPad owner have to make do with an expanded mode which looks a little ugly. Obvioulsy, this does nothing to detract from the usefulness of the app, but the screen real estate of the iPad could be put to much better use.
