Helium Audio Splitter

If you have been making the move to a digital music collection, it is possible that you have gone as far as converting your old LPs and cassettes. Unless you sat at your computer stopping and starting recording constantly, the chances are that each of your old albums has resulted in the creation of two large audio files – one for each side of the album. Helium Audio Splitter is a free utility that can be used to divide this recording up into individual tracks.

There is support for a wide range of popular audio formats including MP3, ACC, FLAC, WMA and many more, so you should find that no matter what music files you are trying to work with, the program supports them. Files can be split in a number of different ways and you can choose to automatically add the relevant tags to make it easier to manage your music.

When it comes to splitting files you can load a CUE sheet to do the hard work for you, or you may prefer to divide a lengthy track up into a specific number of shorter tracks. Alternatively, you may choose to split a track into multiple tracks of a specified length or, as will probably be the case, you can manually choose who tracks will be divided.

To make it easier to make manual selections of track, you can take advantage of the waveform that is displayed – this makes it much easier to see where a track starts and finishes. If you would like to keep your split tracks separate from the originals you can choose a new destination folder for your tracks, but you can also opt to store everything in the original location.
