Disk Drill 1.4

Your computer may be valuable, but the data stored on the hard drive is likely to be irreplaceable and therefore almost impossible to place a value on. Losing files due to accidental deletion or hardware problems could lead to a hefty bill if you end up calling in data recovery experts, but if you can get things under control yourself, you stand to not only save money, but also time and worry.

Disk Drill is a data recovery tool that can be used to protect your data against loss for a range of reasons. The Recovery Vault is used to monitor your files and constantly back them up, so in the event of hard drive failure or file deletion they can be quickly restored. The program should be viewed as a data loss prevention tool – if you need to recover files you have already lost, you will need to upgrade to the paid version of the software.

The application can also be used to keep an eye on the data generated by SMART drives. Growl message can be generated to alert you if you hard drive starts to get too hot, or if anything else changes that might be indicative of a potential problem.

Disk Drill is available in both free and Pro versions, with the latter offering more advanced and varied data recovery options. Working with the free version of the software, it is possible to perform scan to determine just how much data could be recovered, and this could help you to decide whether or not to upgrade to the paid version of the program. Should you decide to make the move to the Pro edition, you also have the option of scanning your drive for recoverable files and restoring them from partitions that do not have a file system.
