Chrome Backup 2011 1.0.310

Setting up your web browser can take a long time, what with importing your bookmarks, remembering which extensions you have installed and fine-tuning other preferences to boot. And can your memory be trusted not to let you down the next time you reinstall Windows, reinstall your web browser and then have to go through the laborious process of setting it all up again?

One solution for Chrome users is simply to set up the browser’s built-in Sync function from the Personal Stuff section of Chrome’s Options. The advantages are numerous – particularly if you use Chrome on multiple computers – but there’s one major downside: you need a Google Account in order to use it.

If your love of Chrome doesn’t extend to a love of Google, you’ll need a third-party solution to back up your Chrome settings. Chrome Backup 2011 backs up your entire profile – including bookmarks, passwords, personal settings and add-ons – into a single, compressed file which can be encrypted for greater security (making it viable for storing on a FTP server).

It’s all very simple to use – backup, restore and browse your profile, plus create a portable version of the program for use on a thumb drive when migrating to a new PC, but sadly the trial version won’t actually back up your actual profile; instead it’ll go through the motions so you can see what’s happening.
