Firefox 4’s Search bar allows you to search the web via selected search engines – type in your search terms, then click the dropdown arrow to choose the engine you wish to use and finally hit [Enter]. It works for some, but it’s quite fiddly to use, particularly if you’re not particularly wedded to a particular engine.
Quick Search Bar changes all that: once installed, the Search bar changes to display icons representing each search engine. Just click the engine you wish to use, type your search terms and hit [Enter]. It’s simple, quick and effective.
To manage your search engines or access the Add-on’s extensive list of configurable options, just right-click the Search bar. The Quick Search Bar can hold a limited number of search engine icons before any overspill is hidden behind a dropdown arrow – choose to manage your engines to tweak the order, or open the options and select “Scrolling the mouse wheel…” to use the scroll wheel to move between available icons.
