TheRenamer is a simple tool for renaming TV or movie files, so cryptic file names like [vd-mux-ita]The.Unit.1x01.Piromane.ITA.DVDMux.[colombo-bt.org].avi will quickly be replaced with a rather more sensible alternatives, such as The Unit.1x01.First Responders.avi.
Look at that a little more closely and you'll see the program doesn't simply remove redundant text, correctly parsing a variety of naming conventions to produce consistent descriptions. Once it's retrieved the series and episode number, TheRenamer can also work with several major TV sites (IMDb.com, TV.com, theTVDB.com, EPGUIDES.com) to discover the episode name, adding that to the file name as well.
And just in case that's not saved you enough time, when the process is complete theRenamer will even move the files to your media library.
Most of the time there's nothing else you need to do. Select your files, drag and drop them onto the theRenamer and the program will work its magic: easy.
But if, for some reason, the default settings don't work for you, then there are plenty of ways to reconfigure things. You can choose your preferred convention for series and episode naming (s1e01, 1x01, 101), define the most appropriate use of separators and caps, set up your preferred folder structure for storing each series and episode, and more.
And if you're a real geek then it's even possible to automate the entire process by running the program with command line switches, allowing you to build theRenamer into your own custom scripts.
