DocShield 3.0.2

Why would you want to back up different versions of the same file? Perhaps you’ve spent hours editing a document only to realise it’s actually worse than the original version; or perhaps you’ve made a mistake in a database, but because every single change is saved, there’s no way to undo what you’ve done.

Although some back-up tools hold on to older versions of files, they don’t afford you much control over the process. In many cases, these backups are taken at specified intervals, meaning you can’t precisely roll back to the version you want.

In situations like these, it’s best to take matters into your own hands. DocShield is designed to back up different versions of the same file and store them in an easily accessible back-up location. All you have to do is select a folder to monitor, then choose what files or file types (such as Microsoft Word or Access documents) to monitor within that folder. Choose how often the folder is monitored for changes in hours, minutes or even seconds, and then let the program take a backup copy of any changed files, enabling you to roll back to an earlier version quickly and easily.

Version 3.0 adds full support for 64-bit version of Windows, plus tweaks the user interface and adds some minor improvements to how the program functions. There are more sophisticated tools out there, but DocShield is completely free for personal use. If you want to use it for commercial purposes, prices start from US$39 for a single machine license.
