CyberLink PowerDVD 10 Deluxe is an excellent DVD movie player that now includes a host of interesting new features.
PowerDVD has always delivered great DVD playback picture quality, for instance, with technologies to automatically optimise brightness, contrast, colour, sharpness and more. But this version now adds two new features to improve the playback of your home movies: TrueTheater Denoise cleans up grainy videos to produce a clearer image, and TrueTheater Stabilizer compensates for the shakiness that you'll often get with a hand-held camera.
A clever new 3D option lets you convert 2D DVDs into 3D at the click of a button, as long as you've a compatible 3D display (NVIDIA 3D Vision, row-interleaved and 3D Ready HDTV are supported). Results are variable, but generally the option worked better than we'd expected, and it's definitely a fun way to add new life to your favourite movies.
PowerDVD 10 Deluxe isn't just about DVDs, though. The new version is now better than ever at handling your movie files, and can play AVI, WMV, MPEG 1, 2 and 4, MKV (H.264), FLV (H.264), 3GP, 3G2, even RM and RMVB clips if RealPlayer is installed - that's a better range than Windows Media Player.
And other new features include the ability to bookmark a particular scene within a movie, making it easy to find later. You can directly upload a video file to YouTube in just a few clicks. And a new social networking element sees you able to make short text comments on a DVD, then post them immediately to Twitter, Facebook and Moovielive.
What you won't get with CyberLink PowerDVD 10 Deluxe is support for playing Blu-ray discs or most high definition content (AVCHD, AVCREC and so on). Those features are reserved for Deluxe's big brother, CyberLink PowerDVD 10 Ultra, which also adds goodies like Dolby TrueDigital support (7.1 ch) to help build a real home cinema system.
