Dolphin Text Editor Menu is an unusual program which adds extra options to just about any text editor.

The program runs in the background, so you're able to use whatever editor you like, just as normal. But if you need to carry out some special task which is beyond your regular program's abilities, then all you have to do is select the text you'd like to format, and press Dolphin's hotkey (Ctrl+ Num Pad 0 by default) and its menu will appear.

If you've ever used a programmer's editor then you'll know more or less what to expect. There are options to remove duplicate lines, for instance, or change text case. You can sort text, reverse line order, align text, remove text formatting, join lines, remove HTML or BBCode tags and a whole lot more.

The program works just about anywhere, too. So you can use it in Notepad, Wordpad, Word, Visual Studio, even websites - anywhere you can enter sentences or paragraphs.

And if you're really interested in portability then you can even install it to a USB stick (right-click its system tray icon and select the Install option).

Please note, the program is free for non-commercial usage only. Commercial licences are available for £5 each; see the developer's website for details.

Verdict

It's no substitute for a full programmer's editor, such as Notepad++ , but if you only want occasional access to a few advanced formatting options then Dolphin Text Editor Menu could be the ideal solution.
