Wifi hotspots can be expensive - but there are free alternatives. And Easy WiFi will help you find and connect to them, often in just a single click. It works like this.

Easy WiFi has many users, all regularly out and about. When they discover a free wireless hotspot, it's reported back to the Easy WiFi servers. And once they have sufficient information about the location of the hotspot, its connection quality and login process, it'll be added to the Easy WiFi network, which currently has more than 200,000 locations worldwide.

Now you happen to be nearby, with your laptop. You turn it on, view the Easy WiFi map and see a pin indicating the location of the new hotspot. Head in that direction, and when you're within range, Easy Wifi will alert you, log you in, and you'll automatically have web access.

We have download links for the Mac OS X and Windows versions of Easy WiFi, but there are others available. You can use Easy WiFi on the iPhone and iPod, for instance; Windows Mobile phones and PDAs; Android Smartphones and devices; Nokia ESeries and NSeries phones with WiFi; Nokia N810, N800 and N770 Internet Tablets. Check the Easy WiFi site for more.

Verdict

Easy WiFi doesn't work with all wireless adapters, but if you're in luck then this could be a very useful tool
