The Google app for iPhone may not sound particularly impressive - it appears to be simply a Google icon which, when pressed, provides access to shortcuts to Google products and services. There is more to the apps than meets the eye, however, although the basic links to Google tools such as Mail, Calendar, Reader, Translate and Latitude are useful as they are handily grouped together under one icon - this is a great alternative to filling your home screen with countless Google icons and gets around the iPhone lack of support for organisational folders.
If you do not use all of Google's services, you can choose which links are displayed, and the list can be re-ordered so the most frequently used icons appear at the top. But what Google is best known for is searches and the app has a great deal to offer on this front as well. Voice search makes it possible to search the web with voice commands, and you can also perform searches based on your current location. This is a simple tool all round, but one which should be installed on every iPhone.
A deceptively simple tool, the Google Mobile App deserves to be one of the first installations on any iPhone
