Online radio is a great way to listen to music, news and other events from around the world – there’s a far greater selection available on the internet than you would be able to find anywhere else. TuneIn Radio earned itself a great reputation and large following with its Android and iOS apps, and the release of Windows 8 sees the release of a new version of the app.

Just as with the mobile version of the software, you can use the app to search for radio stations that match particular specifications. You can also browse through the various categories of station such as rock, sports, news etc and you can choose to filter by country or language. Local radio stations are highlighted so you can easily access those that are going to carrying local news and events information.

When you’re listening to a radio station you can view information about the currently playing track, and you can view suggestions that TuneIn Radio thinks that you might be interested in based on your history. Just as with TV stations, you may well find that there are radio stations you return to again and again, and to make it easier to access them you can build up a list of favorites.

The Modern interface is something that works very well for browsing through information of this kind, and it works particularly well when working with a touch screen device. There are currently some problems with streaming that crop up from time to time, but this is still an early release that will hopefully be updated with fixes in the near future.

A promising app that needs some work to match the level of the mobile version, but looking good.
